Introduction:

Dikrong Valley Environmental & Rural Development (D-VERDS) was constituted in 2000 as Non-Govt. Voluntary Organization with its motive of socio-economic up gradation of rural and urban poor and the community, is located at about 6 Km away from Narayanpur township i.e. Barpathar, Lakhimpur, Assam. Since its inception, D-VERDS with special emphasis on Environment, Health & hygiene, Community Mobilization, Protection, Rescue, Rehabilitation of children living in difficult circumstances, Assistance to Disabled persons, Handloom and Handicraft Development through rural artisans, Science & Technology Development, Self-employment, Training, Consultancy, Agriculture and Livestock management, Leadership Development for Minority Women, Prevention of Trafficking and Rescue, Rehabilitation and Re-integration of women from commercial sexual exploitation etc., Apart from these, D-VERDS concentrating its efforts on community development by promoting SHGs and Skill development. The Skill is one of the principal factors for self employment and to eradicate poverty from the employable youth as well from the society.

Vision:

            To create a society without insecurity, injustice, mal-adjustment of resources, discrimination, and untouched ability of any kind to upgrade the present living condition of the common people of Assam by providing Social Intervention, Technological Intervention, Cultural Intervention etc., to protect the Environment from various natural calamities and to bring the Ecological balance and save the World-wide nature.

Mission:

            Enabling the poorest of poor and disadvantaged people and any person related with the Environment & Nature for qualitative changes in their lives through the self-empowerment process.

Goal:

            An Endeavour for protection of Environment and Ecological Balance of the nature of the World and to address overall development issues through people to people partnership in development. By organizing the scientific atmosphere among the rural people and creating the employment generation for unemployed educated youth and creating the work-cultured activities for rural Artisans are the main goals of our organization.

            To provide Scientific and Technical knowledge to the common people for up-gradation socio-economic status of the society through various training, workshops etc in a common platform.

Area of Operation:

Our target area covers the entire the State of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are located in the North corner of India and the areas of these both states are backward and remote from all sides i.e. economically, socially, culturally etc. The communication system to these places from other states of India is very poor and so the marketing linkages also are not convenient.

            The project area, in which the organization has taken up, in North-Lakhimpur, Dhemaji,  Sonitpur, Jorhat and Tinsukia district of Assam. The North-Lakhimpur district is situated at the North bank of the river Brahmaputra. It is richer in natural beauties having historical importance. The Sonitpur district occupies the west side of North-Lakhimpur district and the Dhemaji is in the north-east, the river Brahmaputra and the Jorhat district are in the east and Arunachal Pradesh is in the south of Lakhimpur district. There are 13 no of Development Blocks in the district and nearly 250 no of villages under each block. Besides, the organization implemented projects in the border area of Assam-Arunachal Pradesh covering the Papumpara district. Our organization is located in the Barpather, which is situated in the border place of Arunachal Pradesh .Hence, we are going to lay preference to conduct different development programmes in these area. The border area of two states is very interior from all sides and the people of these areas are deprived from Govt. sponsored development activities, Voluntary efforts of Non-Govt. organization etc. In this area, The D-VERDS is the only Voluntary organization for rendering continuous service for the poverty-stricken remote people through its various development schemes under Govt. and Non-Govt. agencies.

About The Organization:

            The Dikrong Valley Environment & Rural Development Society was incepted in 2000 as a voluntary organization to provide service to the common people, rural artisans, poor and distressed women and children, Disabled persons, Farmers etc by implementing various projects, schemes in the sectors of Environment control and Rural development, Service and empowerment, Socio-economic development etc in the North east of India.

            The Governing Body constituted by 11 Nos. of Voluntary members as per rule of the Memorandum of Association is the sole authority of the organization. The Secretary is the Executive head of the organization.

Governing Body:

The Governing Body is consisting of nine members of different places of Assam. The Governing Body is chaired by the Chairman and the Secretary and they have authority to apply for various schemes, projects under Govt. and Non-Govt. agencies as per resolution of Governing. The Governing Body meeting is held to consider and implement any schemes/ projects under the organization. As per resolution of the Governing Body, the Secretary will be competent to execute the same with help of the employees appointed in regarding projects by the Governing Body.
